Role Summary
The Associate Director, Strategy & Operations is responsible for driving strategic alignment, operational rigor, and portfolio execution across the Generative AI (GenAI) portfolio in IM R&D. This role reports to the Director, DSDH Strategy and Operations, and partners closely with the Head of GenAI, IM R&D DSDH, to shape, govern, and deliver a scalable, compliant GenAI architecture and application portfolio that accelerates R&D impact. The role serves as a strategic integrator and decision-support partner across the portfolio, ensuring GenAI initiatives are prioritized appropriately, executed effectively, and measured against clear scientific, operational, and financial outcomes. This role may also take ownership of end-to-end execution of specific products as required.
Key Responsibilities
Shaping GenAI Strategy
Partner with the Head of GenAI, R&D DSDH to shape the GenAI strategy, operating model, and portfolio vision across R&D.
Ensure GenAI initiatives align with broader DSDH, IM R&D, and enterprise strategies.
Provide strategic input on use-case prioritization, value articulation, sequencing, and trade-offs.
Portfolio Governance & Decision Support
Own governance of the GenAI portfolio, including prioritization, funding alignment, dependency management, and escalation of risks and trade-offs.
Drive consistent planning, tracking, and reporting of GenAI initiatives across functional and partner teams.
Consolidate insights across programs to support senior leadership decision-making.
Operating Model & Enablement
Establish and evolve processes to support scalable GenAI delivery (planning, teaming, governance, reporting, success measures).
Ensure alignment with enterprise ethics, data governance, privacy, and regulatory expectations.
Foster a culture of accountability, clarity, and execution excellence across DSDH GenAI teams.
Strategic Business Planning
Lead strategic business planning for GenAI initiatives, working with the Head of GenAI to identify and articulate resource needs.
Partner across Strategy and Operations, Finance and HR on GenAI-related resourcing, capacity planning, and vendor spend.
Ensure transparency and consistency of resource deployment toward the GenAI portfolio across partner organizations.
Required Qualifications
Advanced degree in a quantitative, scientific, or business discipline.
8+ years of experience in strategy, operations, or portfolio leadership within data science, digital health, or R&D environments.
Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives in matrixed organizations.
Strong executive communication, synthesis, and decision-support skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting AI/GenAI, advanced analytics, or digital transformation portfolios.
Familiarity with regulated R&D environments and enterprise governance models.
